jenn + vally || life is an adventure

I love Pinterest. I love DIY projects. I love weddings. Well then, Jen and Vally’s wedding was probably the most awesome combination of all of those things! True story. Jen and Vally’s wedding, if not already, needs to be ‘pinned’. There were so many beautiful decorations that the couple made themselves – from a log cut cake stand to the doors the bride entered through. (Those were especially awesome)

The wedding was held outside at Aberthau Mansion in Vanouver on a very typical Vancouver day. The weather could not decide what it wanted to do. Naturally it was dry until the ceremony was set up (so there was no turning back to plan b); rained like crazy while the guests arrived; stopped raining the moment the groom walked up the isle; and resumed its rainy misery the second the ceremony ended.

The reception was held at Capilano Golf Club & Country Club where the couple had mad libs for the guests to play! (Mac and I suggested via mad lib that Jen and Vally name their first 2 children after us – they said maybe!) The bride and groom were also surprised with a dance prepared by the bridal party which was preeettty entertaining.

Jen and Vally – you are two of the nicest people we’ve probably ever met and it has been so much fun getting to know you both. Thank you so much for including us on your wedding day. We wish you both the very best and can’t wait to meet your children Mac and Erin one day ;)

The ladies behind Fairy Godmother Weddings did an absolutely stunning job with this wedding. We had so much fun with them and they made our lives so much easier :)

We also had the BEST time working with Steve and Randy of Bebb Studios. Can't wait to shoot with them again!

Tamara + Barry || I Can't Wait

Tamara (Tam-rah) and Barry (…normal pronunciation) have been together for 8 years, and had lived in their home together for 2 years to the day on their wedding day! (cute little coincidence). They are incredibly thoughtful, generous, HI-LAR-ious people who everyone (including us!) wants to be friends with. These two don’t take life too seriously which I absolutely love. Example – they had an RV take them around on their photo shoot – SO smart! That being said, Tamara did practically everything for their wedding herself – down to flower arrangements and boutonnieres! AND wedding morning when the girls were just about to hop in the limo, one of the boutonnieres broke…Tamara just grabbed an extra rose, ripped off the old one, florist wrapped it back together like a pro and pinned it on her brother. Like it was NOTHING! Not gonna lie, I was expecting a little more drama than that. I was SUPER impressed.

My favorite Tamara wedding day memory- as she was getting her eye make up done – OUT OF NOWHERE – she growls and tries to bite the make up artist! The poor girl almost lost it! And that’s Tamara for you. Super easy going, outgoing, and random as anything. I asked Mac for his favorite Barry memory – he said that Barry was either constantly giggling or crying. It was super cute in the ceremony!

We had the time of our lives at this wedding. It was a gorgeous, rustic-romantic ceremony and reception, and the bridal party was great. Thank you Tamara and Barry for flying us out to capture your day – it was perfect. We wish you both the best and hope to see you again!!

Adrianne + Andrew

Andrew is my little brother, and Adrianne is my new sister in law, and this wedding was one of the happiest days ever! Andrew (or Drew, Drewfus, Droopy, Droops or Droop-a-loop as I also call him) is one of my favorite brothers (I have 2…). He is an engineer who loooves to talk about engineer-y things, and Adrianne is the worlds most polite listener. They started dating while Drew was still in university… in Alberta… and Adrianne was in university here. For 3 years they did this long distance thing and now they are finally married and living in the same province for the first time in their relationship! (Unfortunately for us, they live in Alberta… for now…).

Adrianne looked absolutely stunning, and being the selfless bride that she was let us bridesmaids wear dresses that we actually WILL wear again! I don’t know where to start on things I loved about this wedding as my list will never end, but my favorite thing was that Adrianne had her bouquet divided into 3 parts and at the end of the reception she gave them away to her three grandma’s to say thank you… SO SWEET!

Their wedding was one of the best ever, but as Maclean was a groomsman and I was a prestigious Matron of Honor, we couldn’t film their day… but we could edit it! So thank you to Andrew Noon and Nathan Rogers of Clear Horizon Productions for capturing their day for us (we got all your secret video notes and loved them p.s.) – you did a wonderful job!

Adrianne and Andrew are one of the most wonderful couples I know. They are hardworking, funny and generous people and two of Maclean’s and my very best friends. We love you both so much and had the time of our lives going through the footage and re-living your day. Congratulations brother and sister-in-law, we couldn’t be happier for you two!

Michelle + Jamie || It's Easy To Love You

Mac and I were blindly excited about this wedding. I say blindly because we had never officially met the couple, and it was all the way in Winnipeg so we were definitely unfamiliar with the area. We love travel weddings though, and were confident that we would love this couple, just because. We met Michelle and Jamie the night before their wedding (thanks again for making time for us on probably your busiest pre-wedding day!) and as we expected, loved them. It was almost too easy to talk to them and we were extra excited about the wedding afterwards. Next morning, wedding day. Weather: heaviest rain I’ve ever seen in my life. Not exaggerating. Take the rainiest day in Vancouver and then turn every Vancouver raindrop into a shot glass full of water and that was this Winnipeg rain. Luckily, this rain did something Vancouver rain never does – it stopped! And it was nice a sunny just in time for the ceremony.

Backing up a bit, Michelle and Jamie wrote each other letters to be read at before the ceremony. I almost lost it when Michelle read hers from Jamie – it was so sweet and the way she read it… you’ll just have to watch it and see.

Beautiful couple, beautiful ceremony, be-a-u-tiful reception. Fairy tale wedding if ever I’ve seen one.

Thank you Michelle and Jamie for allowing us to capture your wedding day. You are such a lovely couple and your wedding was perfect. Congratulations!

In the past when we've had to travel for weddings I've always been a little bummed out that I can't fit our 4 ft glidetrack in our luggage. Sliders are such a great tool and when we found out we'd be going to Winnipeg a few times this season, I knew it was time to get a new slider. We ended up purchasing the Kessler Crane Pocket Dolly Traveler. This slider is incredible. The Glidetrack is definitely a good tool, but after using it for a couple years we've noticed it's flaws and have been itching to upgrade. The Pocket Dolly is an absolute Joy to use. Incredibly smooth, durable, light, and only 26 inches long. Some may find the short track to be a down side but usually we only use about 2 feet for sliding shots. It's definitely a worth while trade when you consider how much more portable the Pocket Dolly is. If you're interested go check out kesslercrane.com - Loads of quality filmmaking tools.
