Heather + Jon || The Perfect Time

We love this couple so much that we EACH wanted to write our OWN blog post for this one so… I have known this beautiful couple since Mac and I first started dating almost 6 years ago, and have loved them since day one. You don’t meet couples like Jon and Heather very often.

You should know is that THIS Heather is THE Heather who designed our website! (Craaayzy talented!) She also designed and created all of the stationary at her wedding – the program, seating chart, table numbers, even the boxes that held the favors! Ah-may-zing.

Naturally, Mac and I were super pumped to film this wedding. Who doesn’t want to be a part of their friends wedding?! But from a strictly “wedding cinematographer” perspective, this wedding was a dream. The couple is blindingly gorgeous, they had a first look, the locations were unique and so beautiful, and there was so much heart throughout the entire day. You will notice in the film that Heathers mom is mentioned a lot. She passed away a few years ago. At the rehearsal dinner, her dad presented her with a necklace and earrings that her mom had picked out for her to wear on her wedding day before she passed away. Almost lost it when I found that out. She also wrapped her flowers in fabric from her mom's clothing. Sharon Hastings was very much a part of this day.

For this couple, they consider their friends their family. This is probably why their wedding was by far THE most fun I’ve EVER had at a wedding in my life. Everyone was so incredibly happy for them, all their friends are impossibly fun, AND the dance floor was pa-aaacked all night long.

Heather and Jon… We feel so honored that you invited us to be a part of your wedding day. It was one of those days we’ll never forget. We love you both so very much and can’t WAIT to go on multiple couples trips with you! Congratulations! - Erin

I've known Jon since middle school. We were a pretty cool duo. So cool that we would breakdance every chance we got and I'm quite sure that everyone thought we were extremely awesome. Along with some of our best friends, we grew up together and had many good times skateboarding, snowboarding, skimboarding, wakeboarding… so a lot of boarding. Jon was actually a huge part in getting me started in video. In high school he thought it would be cool if we made a full length skateboard video with some friends. We ended up making 2 skate videos and those are some of the best memories I have. A few years ago he was also my landlord at the infamous "Burrow" where some of my closest friends and I lived. Again, some of the best memories I have and that I'll treasure forever.

Heather is one of my favourite people ever. Period. She's hilarious, a design genius, extremely creative and not to mention the kindest person you'll ever know. She's also the brilliant mind behind our brand refresh and new website. Heather and Jon met in high school and it wasn't long until they were inseparable. Their story spans a long time and they've been through many ups and downs together but through it all they've stuck together and have become stronger. I've always looked up to Jon and Heather. When Erin and I began dating, I truly wanted my relationship with Erin to model theirs. Two people of God, who endlessly support each other and have fun together. So much fun. Check out their film for a glimpse of who these two wonderful people are. Congrats Jon and Heather. We love you two HEEPS! -Mac

We were so glad to be able to work with Erin Bishop and her incredible team at Filosophi Event Planning and Design, and ofcourse we were so pumped to be able to shoot alongside the incredible James Moes - we can't wait to see the photos! You can check out Heather and Jon's engagement photos here!

Meg Courtney || Photographer

Meg Courtney aka “The (self proclaimed) Girl in the Teal Pants” – I think this could stick! Lets go with it. This girl is organized, adorable, super sweet, and a really excellent car dancer. She is a photographer from Kelowna who came all the way out to Vancouver to have us shoot her promo - only to have to reschedule a bunch of times due to our famous weather. Rain.

Once we nailed down a dry day, this shoot was an absolute breeze. Meg came to us with an incredibly well thought out plan and vision of what she wanted - so Mac and I got to have some fun making shot lists! It’s very rare that we get to plan out our shots ahead of time! We were quite excited.

The plan for the very last shot was that Meg and her husband Scott were going to run into the ocean. Solid plan. In Kelowna maybe… But here? In early May? On a windy day? It was FREEZING!! I could barely press record on my camera my hands were so cold! But they were committed – even without towels or changes of clothes - they ran out there like troopers. I was very impressed.

Check out this girl’s site – she’s great at what she does and is so much fun to work with!

Mark + Gillian || Save The Date

Gillian is into fashion and music and art. Mark is an engineer. They are the perfect couple. We got to spend a beautiful, sunny evening with this couple at Crescent beach filming a save-the-date for them – cutest idea! And I’m very proud. I would like to take a little credit for this as Maclean and I did a similar film for our wedding invitations - but this one was much more beautiful. We hit it right that evening – the light was perfect! The couple was also really creative. They showed up with a list of things they like to do together to incorporate into their film. Example – they love to go dingy-ing together, so they brought a dingy, blew it up and hopped in the freezing ocean. It was quite entertaining for Mac and I actually.

We had so much fun with Gillian and Mark and are so excited for them! If Gillian has anything to do with this wedding, it will be incredibly beautiful and unique (I follow/love her blog - gillian-nicole.blogspot.ca/). Congratulations to you both!

Lindsay Gee || Photographer

It’s always so fun in the off-season to shoot some different projects - and this time was EXTRA fun. Lindsay Gallagher-Smith, a photographer from Penticton, and quite possibly THE FUNNEST person alive. Meet her for 10 seconds and you’ll know what I mean. Some favorite things about her: 1. She is super funny 2. She has an amazing voice 3. She laughs like a CRAZY person to make the couple she’s shooting feel more comfortable 4. She got bangs for the first time the day before the shoot (I think that’s pretty bold – and they look awesome!)

I really don’t think you can put her personality into words, but you can capture it on film. Watch the video, you’ll see for yourself! -Erin

||TECHY STUFF||

This promo was shot entirely on two 5D mkIIs using the Canon L Series 24mm, 35mm and 50mm, along with the rest of our support/audio gear. We've shot a handful of promos and when Lindsay contacted us about making one for her, we racked our brains to find a different approach for this project. We really wanted to focus on her personality as it is so apparent and infectious when you meet her. You can't help but smile when she says little one liners here and there or giggles. To showcase this we decided to strap a wireless lav on her while we followed her on a photo shoot. We weren't quite sure what we'd capture but we're SO glad we did it because the sound bites that ended up in the promo perfectly display what she's like when you're with her.

Another way we wanted to capture her personality was in a interview setting. We set up a couple cameras and basically just chatted with her for a half an hour. We had a few questions to help get her started but it really turned into a chat about why she does what she does and who she is as a person. She has a very deep side that not everyone gets to see. She's not only extremely passionate about photography, but singing, dancing and many other creative arts. A true artist. We were so happy to be able to capture that in the interview to support the visuals in the piece.

There were also many laughs along the way. We even have a blooper video that we'll be sharing soon :) -Mac
